How to Give
Low Income Senior Citizen and Disabled Housing Rehabilitation Program.
The service area of the Western Reserve Community Development Corporation encompasses the residents of Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula and Cuyahoga counties. All four counties have experienced a growing number of low-income senior citizens and disabled residents who own their own home, but are having an increasingly difficult time maintaining it. These residents are faced with the choice of maintaining their roof or paying for medication, food or their utilities. Unfortunately, deferring the roof, a ramp, gutter cleaning or replacement all get placed at the bottom of the priority list.
Adopting senior citizens and residents with physical and mental disabilities who own their home has become a priority for the Board and staff of the Western Reserve Community Development Corporation. When our organization is called to provide assistance, we spend approximately $3500-$5000 per home for health and safety issues. We have provided roofs, water heaters, windows, ramps, and electrical upgrades. WRCDC will provide a 0% interest free, deferred loan with homeowners. A lien is placed with property so at the time the property is transferred; the funds can be recycled back to WRCDC and used for another homeowner.
